P E O P L E    Hank Levine

 

Hank Levine Film & Music GmbH ( a.k.a Hank Levine Film GmbH, Production, Distribution, Licensing Company and Music Label), was founded in 1995 by Hank Levine, and has since then co-produced movies such as Fernando Meirelles Oscar nominated “Cidade de Deus” (2003 “City of God” Academy Award nominee for best director, best cinematography, best editing and best adapted screenplay), Maggie H. West  “War Zone” (1998) and Karim Aînouz “Praia do Futuro” (2014, “Futuro Beach”). Other movies produced by Hank include the documentary "Waste Land” (2010,  Lixo Extraordinario ,  Academy Award nominee for best feature length documentary) directed by Lucy Walker, and "Rosa Morena" (2010, nominated for best danish film/Robert Award), directed by Carlos Oliveira, as well as the Hank Levine directed documentaries, “Ginga” (2005), ”Abandonados” (2010),  “Barcelona or Barsakh” (2011),  “Exodus - Where I Come From is Disappearing” (2016) and "Dialogue Earth" (2019).

 

In 2023 Hank executive produced the feature length documentary Não haverá mais história sem nós directed by Priscilla Brasil and her Companhia Amazônica de Filmes, for whom he will produce her upcoming project, the documentary Extração (Extraction), scheduled to go into production in 2024. 

 

 

 

 

Currently in development as producer  fiction and non-fiction projects, such as the feature length documentaries Incidente Incitante by Susanna Lira and Extração (Extraction) by Priscilla Brasil, as well as the feature films Woyzeck by Matheus Nachtergaele e Cidade Cinzas (City Ashes) by Maíra Bühler.

 

 

The company's Music Projects include the 53 "City of God Remix" tracks from the "City of God" movie and its soundtrack as well as the "Ginga - The Soul of Brazilian Football" soundtrack album.

 

Levine's documentaries and feature films focus on contemporary issues, environmental, socio-political and social conflicts.

 

The 1998 documentary War Zone, directed by  Maggie H. West documents sexual assaults on women on the streets of American cities such as New York and San Francisco. This documentary had its world premiere at the 1998 Berlinale.  He co-directed the documentary Ginga in (2005).

 

The Levine directed feature-length documentary Abandoned (2011), follows street kids in São Paulo over several years, and Barcelona or Barsakh (2011) portrays people from Senegal risking their lives to reach the Spanish coast on simple fishing boats in search for work to support their families back home. 

 

Exodus, Where I Come from Is Disappearing, was completed in 2017 and also deals with migration and portrays refugees but on a global level.

 

Following its theatrical run, the Levine directed documentary Dialogue Earth (2019) - a biopic about earth painter Ulrike Arnold and the creation of her "One World Painting" a monumental double-sided painting which the artist painted with earth from all continents - was sold to Netflix. International sales handled by Cologne based Rushlake Media.
